English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
We run a large programme of ESOL courses for adults who want to learn and improve their English language skills. You will practise speaking, listening, reading and writing - covering topics that will help you in your work, studies and daily life.
You can join a course at any time during the year but first need to book a skills check. Book online or call 01375 372476. Courses may be free for learners in receipt of unemployment benefits or on a low income who meet residency criteria.
Designed for beginner ESOL learners to gain confidence when speaking and listening and to get more out of living in the community
- Entry 1
For people who can speak, read and write a few simple sentences in English.
- Entry 2
For people who can have basic conversations plus read and write short letters, emails and forms in English
- Entry 3
For those who are more confidence about their English and can go to the shops, travel, have conversations about everyday topics, read simple newspaper articles, write letters and emails. You will need to develop your language skills and write about more complicated subjects or produce more accurate work.
- Level 1 and 2
At this level, you will develop your language skills beyond everyday use. you will work towards a more thorough underwstanding of English grammar and build your confidence to use it. You will need to read, write and talk about complicated topics and focus on accuracy of your work.
